"My Prostate Has Cancer"
by Warren Kurtze
September, 2005
Who knew we had such a famous and courageous author in our midst?
Warren was a Euryale plankowner and served as Radioman 1C. He was later promoted to Chief in June of 1944 at Milne Bay, New Guinea.
According to Warren, he has his prostate cancer well under control and wanted to share this information with all the men out there. The book has invaluable information in detecting and treating prostate cancer, a disease which is diagnosed in one male every 3 minutes and kills one male every 15 minutes.
Euryale crew, here's your chance to educate yourself on the disease as well as own something that was written and actually published (how great is that?) by someone you may have served with.

About The Author
After 30 years of combined federal service the author retired from the Internal Revenue Service in Las Vegas, Nevada.
His career began in 1940, serving as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was aboard an escort vessel off Cape Hatteras at the outbreak of WWII. He continued aboard escort vessels in the Battle of the Atlantic that provided escort for Merchant Marine convoys.
He then continued service in the Asiatic/Pacific theatre while servicing and providing assistance to fleet submarines.
His military career continued with a transfer to the Air Force where he flew as a crew member aboard several different types of troop carrier aircraft. He flew with his squadron, the 7th Troop Carrier, delivering troops and supplies to Korea at the onset of the Korean War, participating in the longest airlift in history at that time.
He was transferred to the 67th fighter-bomber squadron in Korea as an electronics Warrant Officer. At that time the 67th was equipped with WWII vintage P-51. Soon after the squadron transitioned into the famous F86 and proudly produced one of Korea's ace fighter pilots, that honor going to Major Hagerstrom. From 1961 thru 1971 he served as a civilian technical advisor aboard the U.S.S. Kittyhawk assigned to fighter-bomber squadron VF-114 and VF-213 providing technical assistance on the Phantom fighter-bomber. After three consecutive combat cruises aboard the Kittyhawk he was reassigned to the 1st Marine Air Wing in Vietnam.
His civil service career began in Portland, Oregon with the Department of Energy working for the Bonneville Power Administration, continuing on with Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. He finished his career with the Treasury Department of the Internal Revenue Service in Las Vegas, Nevada. During his employment there he worked in several different positions. First for the Chief Examination Branch, then in the Problem Resolution Office and finally with the Non-filer group.
He waged a personal battle with prostate cancer from 1989 until the present consisting of a period of 14 years. That battle still continues and is documented in this book, "My Prostate Has Cancer."
Warren was born and raised in Junction City, Kansas in 1921. He returned home to Junction City after retiring from the IRS.
