Fifth Division - Navigation & Communication Bill is second row from bottom, fifth from right

Bill was a plankowner from commissioning and left the ship in Sasebo, Japan on November 6, 1945. He was one of four watch supervisors. He was discharged on December 7, 1945 and home on December 8. Bill was a Radioman Second Class, but was a "firstclass" operator, of course. Bill was awarded the American Defense Medal, Victory Medal, Occupation of Japan Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal and Navy Good Conduct Medal.

Bill graduated from Pace Institute with a BS in Accounting and retired from a long and successful career as a vice president of an insurance company. When not playing golf (a "so-so" player, according to Bill) he also managed to excel in other college courses at Drexel Institute of Technology and University of Pennsylvania.

Not only has Bill put his time to good use since his honorable discharge, but his family is accomplished as well: His wife, Jeanne, holds a BS in Chemistry from Rosemont College. Collectively, his eight children hold 9 BA's, 1 Master's, 2 MD degrees, 1 registered nursing degree and 1 degree in Occupational Therapy. As much pride as that brings him, his greatest joy lies in his 26 grandchildren and 4 step-granchildren.
